“ This is a highly competitive championship winner. ”

Very high spec. race car.

Vehicle Story

In 2007, the BMW M3 saw a new generation of Bavarian craftsmanship. Gone was the in-line six-cylinder engine, replaced with an all-new 414bhp 4.0 naturally aspirated V8. With the engine derived from the M5’s S85 V10, the E92 can reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and it has the top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). When it launched, there were concerns that the E92’s bigger engine would ruin the pin-sharp handling. However, this V8 power unit did the car a favour, being just under 20kgs lighter than the outgoing sixer. The E92 went on a little bit of a diet thanks to weight being shaved off in the rear seat assembly, the introduction of a different front subframe, and the fitting of a carbon fibre roof.

Unveiled during the 2009 Nürburgring 24-Hour race, the E92 M3 GT4 was meticulously crafted to excel in the competitive GT4 class, serving as BMW's offering to racing enthusiasts worldwide. Crafted at BMW's Regensburg plant, the body underwent meticulous preparation, including the installation of an FIA-spec roll cage, before being transported to Munich for final assembly alongside other esteemed BMW Motorsport ventures, such as the GT2 ALMS and the E90 WTCC touring car.

This particular model, numbered 11, is one of only 26 M3 GT4s meticulously engineered by BMW Motorsport.

Vehicle Overview

Well, it has to be said this is a superb opportunity and one that doesn’t come along very often to own one of just 26 genuine M3 GT4 cars produced by BMW Motorsport.

The BMW GT4 car boasts a remarkable racing pedigree that spans several owners and teams. Originally purchased and run by a German team, it was sold to a Czechoslovakian team before eventually finding its way into the hands of a gentleman and his son, who competed in classic and sports car series.

Throughout its journey, the car has earned a reputation for excellence, evidenced by a series of class wins achieved by the vendor and the previous owners. This track record of success underscores the car's prowess and reliability in competitive racing environments, making it a desirable option for enthusiasts and professional teams. Whether tearing up the asphalt on the GT4 circuit or thrilling spectators at classic car events, Number 11 continues to showcase BMW's engineering brilliance and racing heritage.

Exterior

The M3 GT4 is in excellent shape, finished in Alpine white. M-Sport and racing decals have been added, which all look in good condition.

The bumper aligns well, and the headlights are in good condition with no splits or cracks to the Xenon units. The bonnet also fits well and is held in place with quick-release catches.

Looking down the sides of the car, everything is nice and straight, with no dings or dents that we could see. The doors have been replaced with lightweight carbon fibre items, which fit well with an equal gap. Makrolon side windows and a 5mm hard coat Lexan windscreen are free from excessive scratches. Standard from the factory is a carbon fibre roof.

The rear is finished with a GT4 adjustable boot spoiler, and the rear lights are free from any damage, with the bumper aligning well. Fitted with BBS 10 x 18” front wheels and 10 x 18” rears, these are in good condition with just a few inevitable racing marks. Currently fitted is a set of wet tyres, which are in good order with a nice amount of tread remaining.

Interior

Inside, a full factory-fitted safety cage is manufactured and installed by BMW Motorsport, which is FIA-certified by Deutscher Motor Sport Bund.

The Racetech seat is just 12 months old, as is the Schroth racing harness, and are valid until 2027/28. These also have very few signs of any wear.

The dashboard is in good condition with no damage. The instrument cluster remains in place with the addition of a lap timer display in front of the speedometer. The Sparco steering wheel is in good order with light age-related wear, held in place with a quick-release boss. An LCD screen connected to a rearview camera allows you to easily see any competitors creeping up behind you.

A new FIA Firesense List 16 fire extinguisher system was installed just 12 months ago at the beginning of the season, and the 100l ATL fuel cell was dated until 2022, but this has been extended for two years and expires at the end of 2024.

Mechanical

Lurking under the bonnet of the M3 GT4 is the naturally aspirated standard V8. The cars were left with the engines untouched to prioritise reliability and cost-effectiveness for owners.

The engine fires up as you would expect, with no issues reported, and sounds fantastic through the Akrapovič titanium racing exhaust system with weight-optimized racing catalysts. The car has covered approximately 25 hours of use since Hack Engineering refreshed the engine in January 2022. Putting all this together and ensuring everything is running just right is an ABS bespoke racing map.

Helping get the power to the rear wheels quickly is a single mass flywheel with a three-disc clutch and a GT4 flywheel. The six-speed gearbox has covered approximately 15 hours of use and has a short and precise change. There is a final drive ratio of i = 4.44 with an oil-cooled Lamella limited-slip differential.

With the power delivered to the rear wheels, the handling has been taken care of by using fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers, enabling you to set the car up as you feel comfortable. Stopping the car comes via a racing braking system, which features AP Racing 6-piston calipers on the front with a 378mm disc and 4-piston on the rear with 355mm discs.

The underside of the car sees a complete Airjack system fitted, installed when new, which has had some components replaced, as seen on the invoices.

History Highlights

The M3 GT4 has been very successful in various events, which have included winning the GT4 class at the Classic & Sports Car Championships and coming 3rd place overall, Silverstone Classic class winner, and Masters GT Championship winner, to name just a few.

Getting a championship-winning car takes a lot of preparation and knowledge collected over years of racing; this is where the handwritten notes will come in handy. These have been made for different circuits around the country. There is also an entire spec folder showing everything on the car, instructions for setting up the car and bedding in brake pads, all handy information before you take to the track in this tremendous M3 GT4.

Plenty of invoices show the car has been well-maintained, the largest being the engine work carried out by Hack Engineering in January 2022, costing in excess of £6,800.

The BMW has just completed a full season with the current vendor, and the car was run and maintained by the renowned Simpson Motorsport racing team.

Included with the sale are:

  • 3 x Sets of wheels (1 set fitted)
  • 2 x Sets slick tyres
  • 1 x Wet tyres (currently fitted)
  • Spare brake pads
  • Autel diagnostic reader
  • Ballast box
  • Ballast weights
  • Homologation data

There is also the option to negotiate an extensive spares package, which includes various sensors, a rebuilt differential, front and rear lights, two front bumpers, one rear bumper, two front wings, a new sintered race clutch, new power steering rack and cooler, radiator plus many other parts totalling over £20,000. This extra package would be expected to get you through one if not two, racing seasons.

The car is ready to go and perfect for anyone wanting to compete at a high level or even use as a dedicated track car; either way, the car won’t disappoint; it will come down to whoever is behind the wheel of this 2009 BMW E92 M3 GT4.
