Vehicle Story
At the forefront of automotive innovation, the E65 and E66 were the fourth generation of BMW's 7 Series and were used by the German carmaker to introduce many novel features, including the iDrive infotainment system, active anti-roll bars, a six-speed automatic transmission, an electronic Smart Key (dispensing with the traditional metallic key), and night vision. It was also the world's first car to use an electric parking brake and the first BMW to feature directional and bi-Xenon (HID) headlights.
The E66 long-wheelbase models, badged "Li," were introduced in June 2002 and are 140 mm (5.5 in) longer than the standard saloon, allowing for extra rear legroom. The prestigious BMW E65 and BMW E66 luxury cars graced the roads from 2001 to 2008. Often colloquially referred to simply as the E65, these vehicles took the mantle from the esteemed E38 7 Series and offered a range of engine options, including petrol and turbo-diesel straight-six and V8 engines, as well as a petrol V12 flagship model.
But that's not all. The E65 set new benchmarks with its advanced night vision technology, offering enhanced visibility and safety during nocturnal driving. The pinnacle of the range, the 760i model, showcased cutting-edge engineering with the world's first production V12 engine to use direct injection, setting a new standard for power and efficiency in luxury motoring.
