Vehicle Story
Launched in 2011, Ducati’s new sports motorcycle line-up was called Panigale, named after the small town of Borgo Panigale.
The first motorcycle to kickstart the family was the Ducati 1199, which boasted the highest power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratio of any production sports bike at the time. A year later, the ‘S’ model was introduced; with a more race-oriented feel, the bike featured improved suspension, an Öhlins steering damper, and larger brakes. It didn't stop there; in 2013, Ducati added yet another version, the ‘R’ model, which was the sportiest bike produced by the company, housing the 1198cc Superquadro Desmodromic liquid-cooled engine that churned out 194 hp at 10,750 rpm.
2013 also marked the launch of the limited-run Superleggera, which translates to "Superlight" in English. It was conceived with the aim of shedding as much weight as possible and elevating performance to new heights. With a production run of just 500 units, it became a massive hit among sportbike collectors and enthusiasts.
Throughout the years, the Panigale has continued to evolve, with various engine sizes fitted and both ‘S’ and ‘R’ versions introduced for each model. This has solidified the Panigale's status as one of the most iconic Ducati models since 2011.
Ducati certainly saved the best for last in 2017 with the introduction of the Superleggera 2. This bike is truly exceptional. As the final model before transitioning to the V4 engine, and again with a limited run of just 500 units, it represents the culmination of six years' worth of enhancements across various models, consolidating all this knowledge to create the ultimate Ducati 1299 Superleggera.
