“ An absolutely stunning bike. A Carbon & Titanium Italian masterpiece. ”

This is a bike for one of the very serious collectors and riders amongst you.

Vehicle Story

Launched in 2011, Ducati’s new sports motorcycle line-up was called Panigale, named after the small town of Borgo Panigale.

The first motorcycle to kickstart the family was the Ducati 1199, which boasted the highest power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratio of any production sports bike at the time. A year later, the ‘S’ model was introduced; with a more race-oriented feel, the bike featured improved suspension, an Öhlins steering damper, and larger brakes. It didn't stop there; in 2013, Ducati added yet another version, the ‘R’ model, which was the sportiest bike produced by the company, housing the 1198cc Superquadro Desmodromic liquid-cooled engine that churned out 194 hp at 10,750 rpm.

2013 also marked the launch of the limited-run Superleggera, which translates to "Superlight" in English. It was conceived with the aim of shedding as much weight as possible and elevating performance to new heights. With a production run of just 500 units, it became a massive hit among sportbike collectors and enthusiasts.

Throughout the years, the Panigale has continued to evolve, with various engine sizes fitted and both ‘S’ and ‘R’ versions introduced for each model. This has solidified the Panigale's status as one of the most iconic Ducati models since 2011.

Ducati certainly saved the best for last in 2017 with the introduction of the Superleggera 2. This bike is truly exceptional. As the final model before transitioning to the V4 engine, and again with a limited run of just 500 units, it represents the culmination of six years' worth of enhancements across various models, consolidating all this knowledge to create the ultimate Ducati 1299 Superleggera.

Vehicle Overview

This is a bike for one of the very serious collectors and riders amongst you.

We present the very desirable 2018 Ducati Superleggera, number 212/500 which is unregistered and has covered just two miles! We bet that grabbed your attention even more than it already had.

Like the previous Superleggera, weight is the name of the game, and with a wet kerb weight of just 178kg, even with a full tank of fuel, the Superleggera's weight loss is helped, of course, by the mass of carbon fibre it is produced from.

It understandably weighs a lot less than the Panigale. Lightweight and with a powerful 215hp 1285cc engine, the Superleggera is taken to new levels of engineering, technology and performance, which no other motorcycle manufacturer has ever produced on a roadgoing factory bike.

Exterior

As you can imagine, with just 2 miles covered, this work of art machine is in superb condition.

Starting with the front, the carbon fibre mudguard leads up to the aggressive-looking headlights, which are in excellent condition. The red and white wrap covering the fairing is superb, as is the clear screen, and if you look towards the edges, you will see the whole fairing is carbon.

The fuel tank is the only main part of the bike which is aluminium and is finished in red to match the fairing. At the rear, the sharp tail finishes off the lines perfectly, and nestled neatly within is the rear light.

Take a close look at the wheels. Apart from the hubs, there’s no aluminium or magnesium here; the carbon fibre wheels shave a few more kg from the fantastic Superleggera's final weight. The tyres are a set of Pirelli Diablo Super Corsa SP track-day tyres.

Interior

Place yourself on the plush padded seat, which sits at a perfectly suited height of 32.7 inches from the floor. Lean forward slightly, take hold of the comfortable grips with red highlights, and look down. You will see the perfectly machined yoke, where you can adjust the Ohlins front suspension, and which also shows that this particular bike is number 212/500. It goes without saying that the switchgear and LCD display instruments are superb, with just two miles covered.

There is a host of electronic rider aids, all powered by a Bosch six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), developed alongside Ducati Corse. For the first time on a Panigale, which is needed because of the brutal acceleration, there’s launch and slide control, as well as updated traction, wheelie and engine braking control, cornering ABS, an autoblipper, a quick-shifter, and GPS data analyser giving you masses of information, essential if you were on track. This would show where and when the throttle was open, engine rpm, speed, and gear selection; you get the idea. It all helps to shave a few tenths off your lap times.

Mechanical

It's called the Superleggera for a reason—the weight! The main part of a bike's weight, apart from the engine, is the frame.

The Ducati has a high-strength carbon fibre monocoque chassis, which is 40% lighter than the aluminium frame used on other Panigale models. The single-sided swingarm also offers another 18% saving, and then there are the fairing, mudguard, and hugger.

Fitted with the 1285cc Superquadro engine, this produces 215bhp. It is built with race-derived components, which include high-compression pistons, high-lift cams, aluminium cylinder liners, a lightweight flywheel, titanium conrods, a crankshaft with tungsten counterweights, larger titanium inlet and exhaust valves and a ported cylinder head. The valves are even bigger than the ones used on superbike competition bikes.

The work of art Akrapovič titanium exhaust system saves 4 kg. Not only is it lighter, but it adds approximately 5hp, and the sound it produces is immense. Handling is addressed with fully adjustable Ohlins 43mm FL936 forks which weigh 1.35kg less than the Ohlins used on the homologation special Panigale R. The rear end uses an Ohlins TTX36 shock absorber, which is fitted with a titanium spring saving a further 0.5kg.

Stopping the lightweight machine is easily done with 2 x 330mm semi-floating discs gripped by superbike-inspired M50 4-piston callipers with ABS. The rear uses a single 245mm disc in conjunction with a 2-piston calliper and again with ABS.

History Highlights

With regard to history, there isn’t really a lot to say about the Ducati. This is due to it only covering just two miles, it's quite obvious the bike hasn’t been ridden.

The bike has not been registered, so you will be the first official owner, and It does come complete with the presentation pack.

What We Think

Wow! What a machine!

Two miles from new and unregistered.

You’ll have to agree that Sportsbikes like this, with only 500 ever produced, don’t come along very often, but seeing one in virtually factory-fresh condition, with two miles and never been registered, certainly pushes this already extremely desirable bike to the next level.

This is the ultimate bike for a true serious collector and enthusiast, and we estimate it will fetch in the region of £55,000 - £60,000.
