Vehicle Story

With the Clubman deviating from the original Mini’s naming structure to denote the estate version of the brand, the estate version of the mini remains a popular option on the market today for a good looking, usable estate car. The John Cooper Works edition (or JCW) is the most powerful production mini ever (along with the Countryman JCW) according to reviews with the same engine that powers the BMW M135i.

Boasting a power figure of over 300 bhp from the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder means the Clubman will get from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds putting it as a match for the successful Golf R estate.

The 2019 version didn’t just get a more powerful engine however, chassis upgrades and a 4-wheel drive system join the party, meaning you get a fun, capable and engaging drive if a little harsh a low speed.

Styling wise, the JCW package comes with a front bumper with huge vents to feed the turbo four-cylinder with air, a subtle rear wing and diffuser as well as specific mirror caps designed to improve aerodynamics. Coming with 18” or 19” wheels (this example has a smart set of black 18” alloys) as well as the usual JCW optional red highlights and some purposeful exhaust tips. Inside the fantastic looking sports seats remain as well as some updates to the telematics system.

Vehicle Overview

The Mini was purchased from the trade owners of Dick Lovett in Bath back in December of 2020 around the time the easing of the lockdown measures came into effect. Previously registered with Dick Lovett to meet sales targets, it was handed over to the current owner in 2020 as a replacement to the current daily driver.

Used since for local shopping trips with the majority of the mileage being completed under its current ownership, the Clubman remains in wonderful condition being backed up with a great specification.

During its time with the current owners, it has been maintained regularly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations based on time rather than mileage. The number plate shown is not included.

Exterior

Finished in Starlight Blue with a Midnight Black roof, wing mirrors and 18” John Cooper Works Grip Spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin Super Sport run flat tyres, the Clubman certainly is a handsome looking hot estate.

With the car only having done 8,900 miles there is not much to draw your attention to on the exterior in terms of flaws or faults. The paintwork is still in great condition as is the trim, body panels are straight and there are no signs of any obvious car park dings or dents from what we can see.

There is some minor curbing to the front wheels, but otherwise the exterior is subtle but purposeful and hints at the car’s performance potential nicely. It’s an example we’re sure you’d be proud to have on the driveway.

Interior

In the cabin, the Mini is equally nicely specc’d with half ‘Dinamica’ cloth and leather sports seats which look great in the front of the car looking to offer some effective lumbar support. Elsewhere the dash and door trims come with piano black trim highlights with a grey patterned dash rail. The centre console we believe is the Navigation Pack equipment level which came as standard on the JCW.

There is very little wear if any in here as you’d expect from a car with such low mileage, the seats are in good condition as is the rest of the trim in the interior. Everything is reported to be working too in terms of electricals and the steering wheel trim remains in good condition too.

Mechanical

Hidden under plastic trays and tightly packaged in the engine bay, there is not much of the working unit available to curious eyes under the bonnet, however going from the seller reports and the service history, there is every reason to be confident this car is in good mechanical condition.

Wider ownership reports suggest few issues with this generation of Mini as long as regular maintenance is kept on top of which has been the case here. The seller reports no issues either with the car performing faultlessly for them over the past 4 years.

History Highlights

The car’s current MOT runs out on the 26th September 2024 with the maintenance summarized below. The car comes with its V5C, two keys and its full logbook and owner’s manuals.

  • Main dealer service – 12/12/2023 including oil and air filters as well as spark plugs, brake fluid at a cost of £522.87
  • Main dealer service – 15/09/2021 including oil and air filter as well as brake fluid service at a cost of £390.72

What We Think

The 2019 JCW Clubman was a huge improvement over its predecessor with more power, more chassis control, and a more engaging drive. The market for hot estates has always been a bit of a niche but much loved one with customers demanding a high-quality product.

This example has been treated well during its time with its current owner and represents an attractive option for those considering first time Mini ownership or those looking for a fun practical, reliable car to use for family or daily driving duties.
